The piece ’’Aus Den Sieben Tagen’’ (Karlheinz Stockhausen; May, 1968) is a response to both personal crisis, and, to a wider extent, crisis in the surroundings. It is considered as a means to tackle mental difficulties and challenges, characterised as ‘’intuitive music’’, music produced primarily from the intuition rather than the techniques of a performer. Considering the world-wide events of 2020-2021, the themes explored in this work are now just as relevant as when it was written.
The past years have seen a great number of people having mental struggles, dealing with physical and mental obstacles such as being apart from people, mentally locked in, fear of the future, or the sinking of one’s personal foundations.
We, as many others, felt this way too, and thus wanted to draw attention to this topic via the means at our disposal, so through art. We believe that art serves as a way to approach people and connect topics that often seem to be tabu or overlooked – such as mental health. Art offers an alternative route in approaching these difficulties. It creates a platform with less rigid definition. This project in particular opens up new possibilities to perceive one’s surroundings and allow the audience to experience art not only as an aesthetic or emotional experience but also as part of a process of recovery and healing.
